Equestrian Canada (EC) has named Megan Lane of Loretto, ON the February 2018 Red Scarf Equestrian Dressage Athlete of the month in recognition of the consistent results she has produced at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) in Wellington, FL.
Lane has been competing with three horses at AGDF, all of whom are in contention to compete at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games:
- Caravella (sired by Contango), a 17-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Megan, Cathy & Kelsey Lane;
- San D’Or (Pavarottie W x Cocktail), a 12-year-old Westphalian gelding owned by Deer Ridge Equestrian; and,
- Zodiac MW (Rousseau x Amethist), a 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Deer Ridge Equestrian.
At AGDF 5, Lane had two third place finishes with San D’Or in the CDI 3* Grand Prix on Feb. 7 (67.978%) and the CDI 3* Grand Prix Freestyle on Feb. 9 (71.850%). Plus, she rode her 2017 Rio Olympics partner, Caravella, in the CDI 5* division, placing fifth in both the Grand Prix on Feb. 8 (70.543%) and Grand Prix Special on Feb. 10 (69.383%).
Lane rode Zodiac MW in five classes during AGDF 5, 7 and 8, and the duo consistently improved on their scores with each performance. Their highlight came on March 3 with a third place finish on a score of 67.915% in the CDI 3* Grand Prix Special.
“It is so exciting to have the privilege of training these three talented horses,” said Lane. “I have a great team behind me and fantastic owners who are just as thrilled as I am to be in this position. All of us have worked for a long time bringing the horses along and the journey is a great part of enjoying the success of seeing them thrive at this level.”
As the Dressage Athlete of the Month for February, Lane will be receiving a generous gift certificate from Red Scarf Equestrian that can be used toward the purchase of elegant equestrian luggage, travel bags and accessories that are all made in Canada.
